NBA DFS Is Right Around the Corner - But First, Jaguars/Saints

Can Trevor Lawrence overcome the mild knee sprain?

Good evening RotoRadar Nation!

The RotoRadar team is 43-20 (68%) through the first third of the 2023 NFL DFS season as we head into Week 7!

Before we jump head first into the NBA DFS season next week, we have a matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars (4-2) and the New Orleans Saints (3-3) on Thursday Night Football, here are a few trends to get your night started:

5 Trends to Watch for Jaguars @ Saints —

  • First half unders are now 24-14-1 on Thursday Night Football since 2021. Jacksonville has won seven straight road/neutral games against the spread dating back to last year.

  • Trevor Lawrence is 19-23 against the spread in his career, but 14-11 with Doug Pederson as his head coach. At the posting time of this article, we are still not completely sure that Lawrence is suiting up for Thursday night (knee sprain), but I am still leaning towards him being good enough to go here. What we should expect is that his mobility will be limited, but he should still be effective in the pocket and has a plethora of receivers to make his life a bit easier. In the event he misses, CJ Beathard would step in and run the offense, lowering the floor and ceiling of all Jaguars pass catchers.

  • The New Orleans Saints are the ONLY team in the NFL to have played SIX games that have ALL gone under the game total (40.5 currently via BetOnline.ag). This streak dates back to 2022, as the Saints have been involved in games that have gone under the total in 12-straight.

  • This will be the first time that Alvin Kamara and Jamaal Williams will both be active for the Saints (Kamara served a 4-game suspension, Williams is coming off the IR this week after suffering a hamstring injury that sidelined him since Week 2). On a "Main" slate, I would be completely avoiding this situation, but considering the format and one-game player pool, we have to push the chips all-in on the Kamara role knowing that a bit of his role may be affected by the "goal-line-hogging" Jamaal. Through three games in 2023, Kamara has a touch floor of 24. While we shouldn't expect this, I think we can still pencil in the RB1 to carry the ball 12-15 times and catch anywhere from 4-7 passes, coming close to a 20-touch, multi-faceted role.

  • Jaguars WR Zay Jones will not be able to suit up for yet another game this season. While this will raise the floors of Christian Kirk, Evan Engram, and Calvin Ridley, this will also throw WR4 Jamal Agnew into 3-WR sets in the event of a passing attack comes into the fold. At just $400 on DraftKings Showdown, Agnew is your "free square" of the evening.
