Sharp Ramblings #1: Super Bowl LVII Prop Fest!

We’ve started a newsletter! Since 2015, RotoRadar has been a go-to hub for all things Daily Fantasy Sports content, lineups, and advice. Through years and years of providing premium/behind paywall content, we spent much of 2022 “breaking down the walls” in a sense and focused on building a free-facing infrastructure encompassing not only daily fantasy content, but also fully embracing the prop betting world. It has been an absolute WHIRLWIND of an experience to say the least and has opened our eyes to a world that we believe gives you - the reader - a ‘new home’ feel where you can dive into the world of props while still having access to that vintage old school DFS/Sports Betting knowledge that ages like a fine wine. Cheers to a wild 2023!

SUPER BOWL LVII IS HERE!

We are just days away from the sports holiday of all sports holidays - Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles! From the coin toss, to the length of time of the National Anthem, to the game’s first touchdown scorer, there are literal thousands of game props, player props, and miscellaneous betting options to sweat during the Big Game. Keep an eye out on our main Twitter handle for special partner giveaways this weekend. Here are a few thoughts from our beloved partners regarding this weekend’s main event:

The best bet tracking app on the market, Pikkit, is a great place for the beginner prop bettor to get their feet wet in the space. With their free bet tracking technology, you can sync sportsbooks to make your life easier while also giving you a platform to post/see what player’s your friends are looking at targeting on any specific day. Below are some Pikkit Community tidbits regarding Chiefs/Eagles as of Wednesday, February 8th.

Not surprising, but the public REALLY likes the OVER of 51 Total Points (who doesn’t?), with 72.5% of the money and 63.3% of bets on a shootout-style game.

With how close the spread has been since markets opened, it’s very interesting to see that there are more Pikkit community members backing Chiefs money over Eagles money, although the pick margin is thinner. Community members are also expecting Philly to rely on their pass catchers to move the ball, heavily targeting Dallas Goedert receptions and AJ Brown receiving yards to pair with their Jalen Hurts passing yard over selections.

Our friends over at props.cash pride themselves on providing a data driven software that allows you to quickly analyze thousands of prop lines via phone, tablet, or computer. Traditional box scores are a thing of the past and are not optimal for researching player props. Here are a few NFL trends that you need to note when doing Super Bowl LVII research:

Isiah Pacheco has been incredibly consistent in the rushing yards department over his last ten games. Outside of a bad matchup against Denver and a playoff game against Cincinnati that he was used as more of a pass catcher (5/59 off of 6 targets). The Eagles are middle of the pack in terms of allowing fantasy points to opposing running backs (15th-worst @ 22.6 fntsy pts against) this season. Note: Jerick McKinnon appears banged up and Clyde Edwards-Helaire, while on the active roster for the Super Bowl, shouldn’t be used much if at all.

Dallas Goedert has been relied upon heavily as through the Eagles playoff run, averaging at least 5 receptions in his past three games (counting Week 18). While their have been inconsistencies as he has fought through injury, the Super Bowl is an intriguing spot to get Jalen Hurts’ safety blanket in a solid spot. KC gives up the 13th-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Goedert’s strong role in this offense may continue if we think the Eagles will be forced to pass more than they are used to to keep up with the Chiefs offense.

Super Bowl Game Trends Worth Noting:

  • The Team Who Wins the Super Bowl (Almost) Always Covers the Spread (the team that wins the game is 47-7-2 against the spread)

  • The under is 5-2 in the last 7 Super Bowls that have featured an NFC East Team (last Eagles game went way over in Super Bowl 52)

  • Underdogs are 3-0 against the spread in all Super Bowls played in Arizona (PIT covers spread against DAL in Super Bowl 30, NYG win outright against Patriots in Super Bowl 42, NE wins outright against SEA in Super Bowl 49)

  • Teams that score first in the Super Bowl have won the game 68% of the time (use this to your advantage when betting First TD Props)

  • The team that rushes for more yards in the Super Bowl is 39-14-3 ATS

  • Nick Sirianni is 4-0 ATS and Straight Up as a head coach when the spread is lower than three points as a favorite

  • Andy Reid is 3-0 ATS and Straight Up as a head coach vs. the Eagles

  • The Game Total has gone over in three of the last four Super Bowls that have had a female-led halftime show

  • In the last eight Super Bowls, the team that has won the coin toss has lost the game (43% of teams have won the Super Bowl after winning the coin toss all-time)

  • First Touchdown scorer %s all-time: Wide Receivers (44.6%), Running Backs (28.57%), Tight Ends (8.92%), Defense/Special Teams (8.92%), Quarterbacks (7.14%), Fullbacks (3.57%)
