Chicago White Sox +245 @ Chicago Cubs -300

Game Total: 9 | Starting Pitchers: Chris Flexen (R) vs. Shota Imanaga (L)

Temps in the high 70s with winds blowing out to left-center in Wrigley at 12-15 mph – huge bump to bats. There are storms before and after the game, so we’ll need to keep an eye on the weather most of the day to make sure this one plays uninterrupted. Wrigley’s grounds crew is one of the best in baseball, they should be able to time this one out to play a full game (again, we’ll need to check back here in discord later).

Shota Imanaga finally revealed himself as a human being in his last start, giving up seven earned runs against the Brewers off eight hits. Those seven runs in one game were two more than he had given up collectively across his previous nine starts. He’ll face a White Sox team today that has the lowest wRC+ in baseball (75) and has a lineup of five guys striking out above 25% to left-handed pitching. Tommy Pham and Corey Julks are high strikeout righties that could do damage if they don’t whiff, but I’m not super concerned with much here. One of the most extreme “dark horse home run calls” of the day is lefty Gavin Sheets, who is CRUSHING lefties over the last month with a 0.429 ISO, 5% strikeout rate, and 50% hard contact rate. Shota’s struggles came primarily from lefties over the last month (Yelich took him yard in the last start from the left side). A Gavin Sheets home run gives you a 4.25x Higher payout on Underdog Fantasy.

The main reason why we need to keep an eye on the storms is due to the fact that the Cubs have the highest-implied run total on Tuesday’s card (5.8 runs), which is higher than both teams playing at Coors today. Chris Flexen will draw the start for the White Sox, presenting an awesome opportunity for the Cubbies. Flexen has turned into the reverse splits pitcher in 2024 that we have seen in previous seasons, giving up pretty sizable damage to righties. Seiya Suzuki has crushed right-handed pitching the whole season and has four extra base hits in his last four games. Happ and Bellinger are both hot coming off the series with the Brewers. Dansby Swanson is 7/11 lifetime here with 2 2B.

The Pikkit community is backing Dallas to cover the spread while the majority of the money is on Boston to take Game 1. Over 89% of the money is also on the OVER of the game total. Thursday can’t come soon enough!
